David Ford made history when he became the first Canadian to win a World Cup medal in 1991 and again in 1992 when he became the first and only Canadian to win a World Cup Gold medal. In 1999 he eclipsed that mark by becoming the first non European to win the World Championships. 2003 was a banner year for David when he solidified himself as one of the best slalom kayakers in the world by winning the overall World Cup title and a World Championship silver medal in the same year. For his achievements in 2003 he was named Canada’s Male Athlete of the Year.
In 2008 David became a five time Olympian, adding to his 4th place result in Athens with a 6th place finish in Beijing.
